Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been re-elected Governor of Osun State, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the keenly contested governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), declared Adeleke the winner at the INEC State Collation Centre in Osogbo in the early hours of Sunday, after the collation of results from all 30 Local Government Areas.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.

The result gives Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes over the APC candidate.
Adeleke Wins 19 LGAs
The election results showed a competitive contest across the state, with Adeleke emerging victorious in 19 of Osun’s 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji won 11 LGAs.
The victory marks Adeleke’s return for another four-year term as Governor of Osun State, following his initial election in 2022.
Election Statistics
According to the figures announced during the final collation:
- Total Registered Voters: 2,339,544
- Accredited Voters: 1,010,684
- Total Votes Cast: 1,005,800
- Valid Votes: 985,079
- Rejected Votes: 20,721
The election was contested by multiple candidates, but the race largely centred on the incumbent Adeleke and APC candidate Oyebamiji.
Ogunwole Declares Adeleke Winner
Declaring the result, Professor Ogunwole said Adeleke had secured the lawful votes required to emerge victorious in the election.
The declaration followed the completion of the collation process from the state’s 30 LGAs and formally confirmed Adeleke’s re-election.
The outcome has generated celebrations in several parts of Osun, including Osogbo, Ile-Ife and Ede, following the official declaration.
Adeleke’s victory also places renewed attention on the performance of his administration over the next four years, while the strong showing by the APC underscores the highly competitive nature of politics in Osun State.
With the final results now declared, attention is expected to shift towards the transition into Adeleke’s second term and the political response from the opposition parties.
