Apapa/Apapa Iganmu Movement Rallies Strong Solidarity for Speaker Princess Mojisola Meranda
The Apapa/Apapa Iganmu Solidarity Movement has demonstrated an overwhelming show of support for
Princess Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. In a powerful display of unity, youths, indigenes, and key stakeholders from the Apapa community and its environs trooped out en masse to reaffirm their unwavering backing for her leadership.
The Apapa community, historically rooted in the Ojora Kingdom, Lagos Island, and the Mainland, is home to a unique and diverse population. Due to its strategic socio-economic importance—housing the Nigerian Ports Authority and being a major gateway for commerce—the area has become a melting pot of various ethnic groups.
Apapa is the only community in Lagos State with representatives from all parts of Nigeria, making it a hub of national integration. Notably, it is also the birthplace and origin of Speaker Meranda, further strengthening the deep-rooted support she enjoys within the locality.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this solidarity movement is the broad representation of its members. The high population density of Apapa and Apapa Iganmu has fostered a strong communal structure, where Yorubas, Igbos, and Hausas coexist harmoniously. On this occasion, despite their diverse backgrounds, they collectively raised their voices in support of the Speaker, standing firmly behind her leadership.
Recognizing the political strength of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the region, the solidarity movement appealed to the party’s leadership, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to recognize and support Speaker Meranda’s position. They emphasized the need for continued peace in Lagos State, urging that the unity and stability that have characterized governance in the state should be upheld.
Additionally, they called on all indigenes and residents of Apapa to maintain peace, respect party leadership, and uphold the directives of the traditional ruler of the land, who has also urged the people to remain law-abiding.
The group deeply appreciates the overwhelming support and presence of youths, market women associations, artisans, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), royal fathers, and all stakeholders who rallied around Speaker Meranda’s leadership today. Their unity and commitment to the progress of Lagos State reflect the true spirit of democracy and party loyalty.
With the massive turnout and cross-ethnic support witnessed at the gathering, it is evident that the Apapa/Apapa Iganmu constituency remains a formidable political force. The overwhelming endorsement of Speaker Mojisola Lasbat Meranda signifies not just her acceptance as a leader but also the confidence the people have in her ability to continue championing their interests at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
