The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Olusegun Akinremi, popularly known as Chief Kanran. He passed away on Friday at the age of 72.
The sad news was confirmed by movie executive and producer, Seun Oloketuyi, in a post on Instagram. Oloketuyi wrote: “Popular actor Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, died Friday morning. Details soon.”
Chief Kanran was a household name in the Yoruba movie industry, revered for his distinctive style, refined elegance, and passion for luxury. His sharp humour and commanding presence on stage and screen made him one of the most respected veterans in Nollywood.
With a career spanning several decades, Chief Kanran featured in numerous stage productions and blockbuster movies, earning him recognition as a cultural icon and a mentor to younger actors.
Tributes have already begun pouring in from colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders, who described his passing as a huge loss to Nollywood and the Nigerian arts community.
