Access Holdings Appoints Bolaji Agbede as Acting CEO Following Tragic Demise of Dr. Herbert Wigwe

Ms. BOLAJI AGBEDE

Agbede Brings Nearly Three Decades of Experience to Lead Access Holdings**

Access Holdings Plc has named Ms. Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer, following the tragic passing of its former Group CEO, Dr. Herbert Wigwe. The appointment, subject to Central Bank of Nigeria’s approval, underscores the company’s commitment to continuity and stability amidst challenging times.

The announcement, made by the company’s Board of Directors in a statement dated February 12, 2024, comes after the untimely demise of Dr. Herbert Wigwe and his family in a helicopter crash. The loss of Dr. Wigwe, alongside his wife, son, and a former chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, sent shockwaves through the business community.

Ms. Bolaji Agbede brings with her a wealth of experience, having joined Access Bank in 2003 as an Assistant General. With nearly three decades of professional expertise spanning banking and business consultancy services, Agbede has held various key positions within the organization. Notably, she served as the Head of Group Human Resources from 2010 to 2022 before assuming the role of founding Executive Director, Business Support in 2022.

Agbede holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos and earned her Master of Business Administration Degree from Cranfield University UK in 2002. Additionally, she is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management UK and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.

Access Holdings’ decision to appoint Agbede underscores the company’s commitment to continuity, leadership stability, and upholding its core values amidst the challenging circumstances. As the company navigates this period of transition, Agbede’s leadership is poised to guide Access Holdings towards continued success and growth in the future.
