Lagos Police Recover 36 Stolen Vehicles, Arrest Serial Killer and Cultists – CP Jimohhe Lagos State Police Command has announced the recovery of 36 stolen vehicles, arrest of a notorious serial killer, and clampdown on cult-related activities across the state. The disclosure was made by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunde Jimoh, during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters.
A key highlight of the briefing was the arrest of Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Eso, who confessed to multiple murders including that of a 9-year-old girl and two men murdered in Mushin in 2024. The suspect was found in possession of nine automatic firearms and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Since assuming duty earlier this year, CP Jimoh has restructured the Command’s crime prevention strategies, leading to significant achievements in crime detection, vehicle recovery, and the disruption of cultist and violent criminal networks.
Equally notable is the recovery of 36 vehicles, some of which were stolen from other parts of Nigeria or smuggled into the country. Others were fraudulently diverted by drivers or criminal syndicates. The Commissioner called on members of the public who had reported missing vehicles to visit the Command with proof of ownership to reclaim their property.
In response to rising cult-related violence, CP Jimoh also revealed the formation of Anti-Cultism Squads in all 14 Area Commands across Lagos, which led to the arrest of 23 cultists during intelligence-led operations. Several of the suspects have already been charged to court.
The Command also reported significant progress in tackling sexual and gender-based violence, with 52 suspects arrested and 44 already charged to court. The offences range from rape and defilement to child trafficking and domestic violence.
Further success was recorded in the seizure of dangerous weapons, including 81 automatic firearms, 213 live rounds of ammunition, and other arms linked to violent robberies and gang activities.
While commending the support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, CP Jimoh assured Lagosians of the Police Command’s commitment to sustaining security gains. He warned criminal elements to steer clear of the state, declaring Lagos a no-go area for crime.
“Lagos will not be a safe haven for criminals. We are strengthening our intelligence and embracing modern technologies to detect, deter, and dismantle all forms of criminality,” the Commissioner stated.
He concluded by appreciating the cooperation of residents and encouraged the public to continue providing credible information that can help the police serve better.
