Nestlé Professional Empowers Food Vendors with Affordable Nutrition Option
Nestlé Professional, the Out-of-Home business arm of Nestlé Nigeria, has introduced Maggi Soya Chunks, an affordable and nutritious protein alternative, to food vendors, chefs, and event planners during the Lagos edition of its Business of Food workshop.
The workshop, which has empowered over 2,000 food vendors across nine states since its inception, aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to enhance their businesses while promoting healthier eating habits. This year’s event highlighted the use of Maggi Soya Chunks, a soya-based texturized protein that provides adequate nutrition for eight people per pack, ensuring food vendors remain profitable despite rising costs.
Addressing Nutrition Challenges in Urban Areas. Canteens, grillers, Maishais, and bukas are essential to urban nutrition but face challenges in balancing profitability and providing adequate nutrition. Maggi Soya Chunks offers a cost-effective solution, allowing vendors to maintain quality while meeting the nutritional needs of their customers.
Mrs. Funmi Osineye, Business Manager for Nestlé Professional Nigeria, said, *“We are committed to empowering local food vendors with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive. By introducing Maggi Soya Chunks, we aim to support their businesses and promote healthier eating habits in our communities.”*
The workshop featured a session led by Mrs. Osaretin Okao, Managing Director of Food Bizz Support Services, on managing food business profitability in challenging times. She urged vendors to embrace innovation and incorporate affordable ingredients like Maggi Soya Chunks into their offerings.
In her address, Mrs. Okao said, “Managing a successful food business requires adaptability. By embracing new, affordable ingredients, vendors can enhance their offerings and sustain profitability.”
The event also included a masterclass by Chef Ehis Oseniga, who demonstrated how to prepare Ofada rice sauce with Maggi Soya Chunks. Attendees participated in a cooking competition, creating dishes such as Chunky Jollof Rice, Soya Spaghetti Jollof, and Soyarito Fried Rice, showcasing the versatility of the product.
Mrs. Osineye assured participants of Nestlé Professional’s continued support, emphasizing the company’s mission to uplift the local food industry, promote entrepreneurship, and make a positive impact on communities.
