steps towards strengthening accountability and public trust in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, today, March 10, 2025, inaugurated the newly restructured Force Management Team (FMT). This follows the appointment of six new Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), marking a bold move to enhance the leadership and operational efficiency of the Force.
Addressing the new team, IGP Egbetokun reiterated his unwavering commitment to building a people-centered, service-oriented, and transparent Police Force — one that is fully aligned with the Federal Government’s security agenda while remaining responsive to the needs and concerns of the Nigerian public.
A major focus of the FMT’s mandate includes the reorganization of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and other investigative units, with an emphasis on improving how crimes are investigated, ensuring professionalism, and promoting justice without compromising human rights.
In a move aimed at embracing technology-driven policing, the IGP directed an immediate update of the Force’s criminal database. He further instructed the Department of Research and Planning (R&P) to work closely with the Force Intelligence Department (FID) and the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance data collection, analysis, and crime prevention strategies.
Recognizing the vital role of public confidence in effective policing, the IGP stressed the need for continuous human rights training for officers, transparency in investigations, and open channels of communication with civil society organizations. According to him, these reforms are designed not only to bolster the operational capacity of the Police Force but also to foster greater collaboration between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
“The creation of this new Force Management Team is not just about restructuring leadership — it is about reinforcing accountability, promoting innovation, and strengthening partnerships with the public,” IGP Egbetokun stated. “Our mission is clear: to protect lives and property, ensure justice, and uphold the rights and dignity of every Nigerian.”
The Nigeria Police Force calls on all stakeholders — including civil society groups, community leaders, and the media — to continue supporting these reforms through constructive dialogue and collaboration.
