
…Emphasizes All-Inclusive Policing Strategies
In a bid to strengthen international partnerships and bolster the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to tackle evolving security challenges, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, recently engaged in high-level meetings with delegations from France and the United Kingdom at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The separate engagements showcased Nigeria’s resolve to adopt all-inclusive policing strategies and harness global expertise to enhance national security.
Strengthening Franco-Nigerian Security Ties
The IGP hosted a high-profile French delegation led by Lieutenant General Régis Colcombet, the French Director of Defence and Security Cooperation. He was accompanied by Colonel Olivier Ductet, Lieutenant Colonel Pierre Yves Dupé, and Commandant Philippe Crespo, along with representatives from the French Embassy.
Discussions focused on fostering bilateral cooperation in areas critical to modern policing, including:
- Cybercrime Investigation
- Anti-Terrorism Efforts
- Training and Knowledge Sharing
- Advanced Policing Equipment and Technology
The meeting underscored the importance of building a sustainable framework for intelligence sharing and capacity building, as both countries explore strategies to combat organized crime and terrorism.
UK-Nigeria Cybersecurity Partnership
In a separate meeting, IGP Egbetokun, represented by AIG Taiwo Adeleke, the AIG Department of Operations (DOPs), welcomed the United Kingdom-Nigeria Cyber Security Delegation. Key members of the UK team included Mr. Mark Smith, Country Director of the Department of Business and Training at the British High Commission; Dan Edmund, CEO of Espranaro Limited; and Morayo Adekunle, Deputy Director at the British High Commission.
Discussions centered on enhancing Nigeria’s cybersecurity infrastructure, with a shared commitment to:
- Understanding the evolving cyber threat landscape
- Strengthening collaboration between UK and Nigerian cybersecurity experts
- Promoting cybersecurity best practices
- Facilitating continuous knowledge exchange to combat cybercrimes
Both delegations reiterated their support for Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to secure its digital space, prevent cyberattacks, and protect critical national assets.
The successful visits by the French and UK delegations highlight the Nigeria Police Force’s proactive approach to international cooperation. IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to adopting innovative strategies and fostering global partnerships, ensuring that Nigerian security agencies remain equipped to address emerging threats.
