IGP ORDERS WEEKLY LECTURES ACROSS ALL LEVELS, ENHANCED TRAINING FOR INVESTIGATORS
The Nigeria Police Force NPF has announced significant reforms aimed at enhancing professionalism and efficiency within its ranks. This was disclosed by the Inspector-General of Police IGP, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, during a virtual conference held on January 13, 2025, with the Force Management Team, including Commissioners of Police CPs. Assistant Inspectors-General AIGs, tactical commanders, and other strategic managers.
Addressing the participants, the IGP applauded the officers for their efforts in combating crime in 2024 but urged them to adopt more effective strategies to achieve a drastic reduction in criminal activities in 2025. He emphasized the importance of professionalism in police operations and directed a series of reforms to ensure higher standards across the Force.
One of the key directives from the IGP was the immediate commencement of specialized training for investigators in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). This initiative aims to equip officers with the skills needed to handle increasingly complex and high-profile criminal cases. The training will focus on improving investigative techniques, ensuring thoroughness, and enhancing the overall capacity of the Force to solve crimes effectively.
To address public concerns regarding police conduct, the IGP mandated reorientation courses for all personnel. These courses will emphasize human rights, ethical behavior, community policing, and the proportional use of force. The initiative seeks to foster attitudinal change and reinforce the NPF’s commitment to serving the public with integrity, fairness, and respect.
As part of the reforms, the IGP has ordered the implementation of weekly lectures at divisional, area command, and state levels. These lectures will provide police personnel with continuous professional development opportunities, covering topics such as:
– Updates on legal frameworks.
– Best practices in modern policing.
– Technological advancements in law enforcement.
The lectures are also designed to facilitate interactive discussions among officers, promoting knowledge-sharing and a culture of continuous learning within the Force.
The IGP charged all strategic managers to lead proactively, maintain public peace, and ensure accountability at all levels of the Force. He warned that supervisors would be held responsible for any misconduct by their subordinates, underscoring the importance of discipline and ethical conduct in building public trust.
In his closing remarks, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to creating an effective and accountable police system that upholds the rule of law and earns the trust of Nigerians.
