Nigeria Labour Congress Suspends Nationwide Protest as Strike Is Temporarily Halted
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has decided to suspend the nationwide planned protest scheduled for Wednesday following a day of widespread demonstrations. The protests, which began on Tuesday, aimed to draw attention to issues such as the high cost of living, inflation, insecurity, and general hardship in the country.

During the protests, participants carried placards with various messages, including calls to end poverty and hunger, support local industries, fix local refineries, end subsidy, end Naira devaluation, and tax the rich to subsidize the poor. The demonstrators marched to the National Assembly, where NLC President Joe Ajaero presented a letter of demands to President Bola Tinubu through the leadership of the National Assembly.
In a communique issued at the end of the National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, signed by President Joe Ajaero and General Secretary Ismail Bello, the NLC stated that it believed the message from the protests had been effectively communicated to the government.
The communique also announced a fresh 14-day ultimatum for the Federal Government, expiring on March 13, for the full implementation of all the agreements and demands presented during the protests. The NLC resolved to suspend street actions for the second day of the protest, citing overwhelming success and the attainment of key objectives on the first day.
However, the NLC emphasized that nationwide action would continue on the following day with simultaneous press conferences across all states of the federation by state councils of the Congress, including the National Headquarters. The NLC reaffirmed its commitment to defending and promoting the interests of Nigerian workers and the downtrodden masses.
