The Ikeja Local Government, under the leadership of Executive Chairman, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), celebrated the 2025 International Youth Day with the historic unveiling of the Ikeja Youths Master Plan — a strategic framework designed to equip, empower, and inspire young people to thrive in a fast-changing world.
International Youth Day, marked annually on August 12, celebrates the potential and contributions of young people globally. This year’s theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” resonated strongly with Ikeja’s celebration, which focused on translating global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into tangible local realities.
Speaking at a special interactive session held at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat, Comrade Dauda — widely recognised as a staunch ally of the youth — outlined the Master Plan’s 5-Point Agenda:
- Education & Skills Development
- Youth Entrepreneurship & Employment
- Sports & Creative Industry Development
- Youth Leadership & Civic Engagement
- Health & Wellbeing
“This Master Plan is more than a document — it’s our shared vision for the future. Ikeja youths are intelligent, creative, and resilient. My administration will continue to invest in their growth because they are the heartbeat of our community,” Dauda declared.
Vice Chairman Hon. Abisola Omisore (OMITUNTUN) encouraged the youth to become exemplary ambassadors of Ikeja, while keynote speaker Mr. Yomi Akinsola delivered an inspiring address urging young people to align their aspirations and actions with the SDGs.
The event brought together the six councillors of Ikeja, management and staff of the local government, community stakeholders, and a cross-section of the vibrant Ikeja youth population.
Closing the event, Comrade Dauda assured that the Ikeja Youths Master Plan would remain a “living document,” continually updated to address emerging challenges and opportunities for the younger generation.
God Bless Ikeja Youths. God Bless Ikeja. Better Days Are Here.
