Government Responds to Christmas Eve Tragedy in Plateau State, Pledges Humanitarian Aid

In the aftermath of the Christmas Eve alleged massacre that claimed the lives of over 100 innocent individuals across 15 communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas of Plateau State, Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has extended heartfelt condolences.

In an official statement signed by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair, Dr. Edu expressed profound sorrow over the senseless and inhuman attacks. She pledged the readiness of her Ministry to collaborate with the state government to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected communities and survivors.

Dr. Edu stated, “It was with utter shock and sadness that I received the news of the barbaric, horrendous, and senseless attacks in Plateau communities, which have left over 100 people dead and injured many while many more are displaced. I condole with the government and people of Plateau State, especially families of the victims of this unnecessary assault on humanity and pray for permanent peace in the plateau.”

Acknowledging the daunting challenges faced by survivors and affected communities, the Minister emphasized the commitment of the federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to collaborate with the Plateau State government in delivering humanitarian aid.

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Ministry to work closely with the state government to provide succor to the survivors and affected communities. The statement affirmed, “We are unrelenting in our efforts to ensure that every Nigerian and all parts of Nigeria experiencing humanitarian crises are catered for in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

As investigations into the tragic incident unfold, the government’s swift response signals a commitment to addressing the immediate needs of those affected by the Christmas Eve tragedy in Plateau State.
