Abule Egba Bus Terminal Inaugurated to Enhance Lagos Transportation Network

Lagos State took another major step toward modernizing its public transportation system with the inauguration of the Abule Egba Bus Terminal on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. The state-of-the-art facility, strategically located to serve thousands of commuters, was officially opened in a ceremony attended by top government officials, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin.

The event also saw the presence of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa; the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro; the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Abimbola Akinajo; and the Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Johnson Babatunde. Their collective presence underscored the administration’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility.

The Abule Egba Bus Terminal is expected to streamline transportation services, reducing congestion and improving connectivity for residents in Alimosho, Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, and neighboring districts. The facility is equipped with modern amenities, including designated waiting areas, ticketing booths, and digital information boards, ensuring a seamless commuting experience.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the project’s role in advancing the state’s transportation master plan. “This terminal is part of our administration’s broader vision to create an integrated and efficient public transport system in Lagos. By providing organized transit hubs like this, we aim to ease travel for millions of residents while reducing the challenges of road congestion,” he stated.

Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of LAMATA, highlighted the agency’s efforts in executing the state’s transportation blueprint. She noted that the Abule Egba Bus Terminal aligns with the multimodal transport strategy that integrates buses, rail, and waterways.

“We are ensuring that every major transit corridor is equipped with modern terminals to support smooth operations. This facility will not only enhance commuter comfort but also improve efficiency in our transportation sector,” she remarked.

The newly inaugurated bus terminal is expected to boost local businesses and enhance the quality of life for residents. By improving access to safe and reliable transportation, the project is poised to increase productivity and economic activities in the surrounding areas.

Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat reiterated the government’s commitment to executing more people-oriented projects. “We recognize that an efficient transport system is crucial for economic growth. Our administration remains dedicated to developing world-class infrastructure that supports our growing population,” he stated.
