Governor Alia Locks Out Civil Servants Over Lateness to Work

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Wednesday took a decisive step to address tardiness among civil servants by locking out latecomers during an unscheduled visit to the state secretariat in Makurdi.

Arriving at 10:35 a.m., the governor was met with an almost empty secretariat, prompting him to instruct security personnel to lock the gates. Hundreds of workers who arrived after the gates were closed were denied entry, a move that expressed the governor’s frustration with the lack of punctuality.

During his tour of the secretariat, Governor Alia expressed disappointment over the absence of several commissioners and senior officials. Addressing the gathered workers who had been locked out, he condemned the poor work ethic displayed by many civil servants and reminded them of their responsibilities as government representatives.

“This behavior is unacceptable. Your lack of punctuality not only affects your performance but also impacts your families and the people of Benue State who rely on your services,” Governor Alia stated firmly.

Governor Alia’s unscheduled visit has sent a clear message to civil servants about the importance of punctuality and accountability. Many workers, visibly embarrassed by the situation, acknowledged the governor’s stance as a wake-up call for better commitment to their duties.

This marks the first public crackdown on tardiness since Governor Alia assumed office, signaling his commitment to ensuring discipline and efficiency in the state’s workforce.
