In a moment charged with gratitude, reflection, and renewed commitment, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, spoke from the heart on Wednesday, July 16, as certificates of return were presented to newly elected council chairpersons and councillors by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
With the APC clinching all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions, the day was not only a celebration of political victory—it was a testament to the enduring relationship between the party and the people of Lagos.

“We thank the good people of Lagos for believing in our party and giving us this overwhelming victory,” Ojelabi said, addressing journalists shortly after the presentation ceremony. “We worked hard for it, and we appreciate God for granting us the strength, and the people for their wide acceptance.”
His tone was not one of triumph alone, but of humility and responsibility. For Ojelabi, the results of the July 12 election were more than numbers—they were a call to serve.
“We will not take this trust for granted,” he emphasized. “This victory is not just for the APC it is for every Lagosian who stood under the sun to cast their vote for continuity, stability, and progress at the grassroots level.”
Ojelabi, a longtime advocate for responsive governance, used the occasion to reassure Lagosians that the APC has established a robust internal mechanism to monitor and evaluate the performance of its newly elected officials.
“Our council chairmen and councillors know that expectations are high,” he said. “We have set up systems to track performance and ensure that they deliver on their mandates.”
Describing the electoral process as peaceful and credible, Ojelabi commended LASIEC for what he called a “historic and people-driven exercise,” noting that the commission conducted itself with professionalism and transparency.
Across the hall, smiles lit up the faces of elected officials, supporters, and party faithful—many of whom saw the day not only as a political achievement but as a milestone in deepening democracy at the grassroots.
In a state as complex and dynamic as Lagos, where urban challenges intersect with deep community roots, the APC’s sweep at the local polls affirms its strength at the ward and council levels. But for Chairman Ojelabi, the real work begins now.
“We have been given a fresh mandate. It is time to serve, to build, and to justify the confidence reposed in us.”
As the newly certified officials prepare to assume office, all eyes are on the promises made and on the party that has vowed not to disappoint.
