The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State Chapter, has dismissed claims of the purported removal of its chairman, Dr. Babajide Kehinde Saheed, describing the action as unconstitutional, unlawful, and without any legal standing.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the association’s leadership said its attention had been drawn to an announcement by a group of individuals claiming to have removed the chairman from office. However, it maintained that the move contravenes the provisions of the association’s constitution, which clearly outlines procedures for the election, tenure, and removal of elected officers.
According to the statement, none of the constitutional processes required for such an action were followed, rendering the purported removal “null, void, and incapable of producing any lawful consequence.”
The association emphasized that Dr. Saheed was duly elected by the general membership and remains the legitimate chairman of the Lagos chapter. It further described attempts to undermine his mandate through unauthorized means as invalid and of no effect.
Reaffirming its commitment to due process and democratic principles, the NMA Lagos leadership urged members and stakeholders to disregard any directives or communications from unauthorized individuals or groups.
It also disclosed that necessary steps, including possible legal action, are being taken to address the situation and safeguard the integrity of the association.
The association called on its members to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing that it would not be distracted from its core objectives of promoting professional excellence and protecting public health.
Further updates, the statement added, will be communicated through official channels.
