In commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD), the Societal Concerns Organization has announced a two-day Mental Health Awareness Workshop aimed at prioritizing women’s mental well-being as a key driver of societal progress. The event is scheduled to take place on April 29–30, 2025.

Themed “Invest in Women’s Mind: Prioritizing Mental Health for Progress”, the workshop will highlight the urgent need to address mental health challenges faced by women, while fostering open dialogue and collaboration between policymakers, healthcare providers, and the public.

The announcement was made by Amb. Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi, a representative of the Societal Concerns Organization, during a live national interview on the Sunday Show Live on NTA 10.

“Women play pivotal roles in shaping families, communities, and economies. When their mental health is compromised, the ripple effect is felt across society,” Amb. Oluwapelumi stated. “This workshop is not just about raising awareness; it’s about creating a safe space for women to speak up, share their struggles, and access practical solutions.”

The two-day event will feature:

  • Expert-led panel discussions on strategies for managing stress, emotional resilience, and mental health advocacy.
  • Interactive sessions to break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage open dialogue.
  • Workshops on self-care practices, mindfulness techniques, and coping mechanisms.
  • Counseling booths for one-on-one consultations with certified mental health professionals.

Prominent mental health experts, including Dr. Amina Yusuf, a clinical psychologist, and Dr. Femi Adewale, a psychiatrist and advocate for mental health reform, are expected to speak at the event.

Dr. Amina Yusuf will emphasize the importance of investing in mental health services for women, stating:

“Mental health is central to women’s empowerment. Without addressing the silent battles women fight daily — from anxiety to depression — we cannot achieve true gender equality. This workshop is a much-needed step in the right direction.”

Additionally, Dr. Femi Adewale will highlight the link between mental health and economic development:

“A mentally healthy workforce means a more productive society. Investing in women’s mental well-being strengthens families, workplaces, and the economy at large.”

The Societal Concerns Organization is encouraging the public — especially women, youth leaders, healthcare practitioners, and civil society groups — to participate.

Registration Details:

  • Interested participants can register via the organization’s official website or social media platforms.
  • Early registration is advised due to limited slots.
  • Virtual participation options will also be available for those unable to attend physically.

Amb. Oluwapelumi urged all stakeholders to support the initiative, stressing that collective action is crucial to addressing the mental health crisis.

“We must move beyond silence and shame. Investing in women’s mental health means investing in the future of our society,” she concluded.

As the world marks International Women’s Day 2025, this workshop serves as a bold reminder that mental health care is not a luxury but a necessity for achieving progress and equality.
