Lagos State Rural Electrification Initiative Transforms Underserved Communities

Lagos State’s Rural Electrification Initiative, championed by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, continues to make a significant impact in underserved communities, ushering in 2025 with renewed energy access and infrastructural development.

The initiative reached multiple areas across Lagos Mainland, fulfilling the government’s promise to improve electricity supply in rural and peri-urban communities.

In Ajegunle (Apapa Local Government Area), residents welcomed the installation of a new transformer, marking a crucial step in their fight against erratic power supply. Baale Ayetoro, Chief Saheed Adesegun Adekunle, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing the needs of marginalized communities. He also commended Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, for facilitating the timely delivery of the project.

The initiative also extended to Palm Avenue Community Development Association (CDA) in Mushin LGA, where residents were overjoyed upon receiving a much-needed transformer. The CDA Chairman, Alhaji Ogunbona S.S, described the project as a game-changer, emphasizing that stable electricity would boost local businesses and improve daily life for residents.

Similarly, in Orile Agege, the impact of the Rural Electrification Initiative was met with enthusiasm. Chief Doherty Samuel of Itesiwaju CDA lauded the Lagos State Government for its unwavering support, noting that improved electricity would enhance economic activities and foster development within the community.

Speaking on the initiative’s progress, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje reiterated the state’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure, stating that the project, which commenced in the second quarter of 2024, remains an active force in bridging the electricity gap in Lagos.

“This project is designed by the Lagos State Government to provide electricity to communities lacking stable power supply, ensuring equitable development across the state,” he affirmed.

With the continued distribution of transformers and expansion of electricity access, the Lagos State Government reaffirms its dedication to sustainable development, economic empowerment, and improved living conditions for its citizens. This initiative underscores Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and ensuring that every Lagosian benefits from the state’s progress.
