Fatal Accident and Attack on Policeman: Tragic Incident at WEMCO Junction
In the early hours of October 19, 2024, a fatal accident occurred at Wemco Junction, Mobil Road, Pen Cinema, Agege, resulting in the deaths of a motorcycle rider and a police officer.
According to reports, the incident began around 1:40 am when a motorcycle rider collided with a trailer at the junction, dying instantly. In response to a distress call, a police patrol team was deployed to the scene to manage the situation. Upon arrival, they were met by a large group of motorcycle riders who had gathered following the accident.
While the patrol team was attempting to evacuate the truck involved in the collision, tensions escalated as the motorcycle riders became hostile, insisting on setting the truck on fire. Tragically, during the confrontation, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), aged 46, was struck on the head and died at the scene. The truck driver managed to escape unharmed.
The bodies of both the motorcycle rider and the ASP were evacuated and taken to the Mainland General Hospital morgue in Yaba for autopsy. In connection with the incident, five suspects have been arrested, and a manhunt for additional suspects is ongoing.
