In its resolve to reduce road accidents on Lagos roads, Coalition of Nigerian Youth on Security and Safety partnered with Ogwus youth empowerment and community development organisation to sensitise Nigerians on road safety.
The speakers at the event believed if we have a safer road, commuting of persons and things will be seamless.
In an interview with journalists and Dr Moses Oladimeji who was invited by CONYSSA to speak at the event said;
” We have experienced a lot of accidents on the road because of reckless driving. People are drinking while they are driving and also people using their phones while driving which has caused a lot of casualties.
“We are campaigning today that people should avoid all of these vices and be focused whenever driving”. He said
With regards to measure in place for defaulters, Moses said;
“There are penalties for some of these things, it is just that sometimes some of these things are not effected, lastma should ensure a more stricter measure and to ensure the road is safe for everyone.
“Safety is for everybody, if our road is safe, absolutely our businesses can thrive”. He concluded
The President of Ogwus Youth Empowerment and Community Development Organisation European Engineer Chinedu Ogwus said
“This event is so special for Lagosians, it is an event created to ensure that there is safety of lives. Recently there have been deaths, accident by the use of phone on our roads in Lagos.
“This campaign is to ensure that road users stop using phone while driving. Stop being distracted. Because distraction while driving can kill. Use of phone while driving is no no.
“The government should also remove the bad boys on the road because they distract drivers. Most accident we have are being caused as a result of bad roads that we have today.
“We are not comfortable driving at night. You wake up from sleep, driving to work, you see homeless people. The government should ensure these people are being removed from the home. Street hawkings should be stopped. These are things that cause distraction on the roads, it makes the driver to lose control.
“We want government to install CCTV in all junctions, in all street of Lagos to reduce criminality. It is possible”. He said
