Societal Concerns Media Network has paid a courtesy visit to the Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Onoja of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshal Department, during which copies of the Societal Digest Magazine were formally presented.
The visit, which took place on a Sunday afternoon—traditionally regarded as a rest day—offered a rare insight into the operational discipline and intelligence-driven approach of the Mining Marshal Department. Contrary to expectations of reduced activity, the department was fully operational, with ACC Onoja actively dispensing his official duties, reflecting a deep sense of commitment and professionalism.
The President of the Societal Concerns team Amb Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi expressed surprise at the level of diligence, rigorous routine, and strategic coordination observed within the department. ACC Onoja was described as a security officer who embodies dedication to duty, never seeking pleasure at the expense of responsibility, and placing national interest above personal comfort.
The NSCDC Mining Marshal Department, under the Corps, has recorded several successful operations across the country, particularly in the protection of Nigeria’s mineral resources and the fight against illegal mining. However, despite these achievements, the department reportedly operates without a dedicated budget—one of its most critical challenges.
Investigations revealed that many operations are conducted under difficult circumstances, with personnel often borrowing utility vehicles and essential equipment to carry out sensitive missions. This situation raises serious concerns about misplaced priorities, especially considering the strategic importance of Nigeria’s mineral resources to national wealth and economic stability.
Societal Concerns Media Network noted that while security personnel continue to deliver results against all odds, sustainable success cannot be achieved without adequate funding and institutional support. The protection of mineral resources, which significantly contributes to the nation’s wealth and prosperity, requires proper budgeting, logistics, and welfare for officers tasked with this high-risk responsibility.
The visit concluded with a renewed call for stronger government commitment to adequately fund security operations, particularly those safeguarding critical national assets, while commending the unwavering dedication of officers like ACC Onoja who continue to serve with excellence despite prevailing challenges.
