Shamelon Faces Arraignment Over Deaths of Lagos Dispatch Rider and Imam Ramon

It was a tense atmosphere at the Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court, Court 2, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, as 55-year-old Shamusideen Oladiti, popularly known on Lagos Island as “Shamelon,” was arraigned under tight security for his alleged role in the deaths of two men—Imam Ramon and Omale Samuel, a dispatch rider.

Oladiti, who had been held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, stood before Magistrate Mrs. Akinde as charges of conspiracy, unlawful assault, and culpable homicide were read against him.

According to the charge sheet, the first incident occurred on August 27, 2025, at Lewis Street, Lagos Island, where Oladiti allegedly delivered multiple fist blows to Imam Ramon, leaving him gravely injured. Despite being rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, Ramon did not survive.

Barely three weeks later, tragedy struck again. On September 17, 2025, Oladiti, alongside others still at large, was accused of conspiring to commit felony and grievous harm. That same day, he allegedly attacked Omale Samuel, a young dispatch rider, inflicting injuries so severe that he later died.

Police prosecutor SP Anthony Iyeye Esq. told the court that the offences contravened Sections 223, 245, and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law (2015), which prescribe punishment for conspiracy, unlawful assault, and culpable homicide.

Magistrate Akinde ordered that Oladiti be remanded in custody pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and adjourned the case until October 28, 2025.

In the courtroom, the grief of the families was palpable. Relatives of both victims clutched photographs and wept openly as proceedings unfolded.

Samuel’s mother, inconsolable, whispered:

“My son left home to work and never returned. How can I bear this pain?”

For Ramon’s family, the arraignment brought back fresh wounds. His daughter, Fatimah, told reporters:

“My father was a peaceful man. To think he died from senseless violence is unbearable. We want justice.”

Community leaders present at the hearing expressed outrage, urging the judiciary to ensure justice is not delayed.

The Investigating Police Officer (IPO), ASP Johnson Olumuyiwa, confirmed that the case file would be duplicated and forwarded to the DPP within 30 days for legal advice.

As Oladiti was led out of the dock, whispers filled the courtroom—some demanding swift justice, others expressing fear of further unrest.

For the families of Imam Ramon and Omale Samuel, the wait continues. The arraignment may mark the beginning of justice, but for them, it is also a painful reminder of two lives cut short in their prime.
