Nigerian Activist Aisha Yesufu Criticizes Kano State Government’s Ban on Cross-Dressing Movies

Aisha Yesufu

Renowned Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has voiced her disapproval of the Kano State Government’s recent decision to prohibit films that depict cross-dressing. This move comes amidst growing concerns from the public regarding the influence of such movies on youth behavior in the state.

The ban was announced by Abba El-Mustapha, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, during a briefing with journalists following a meeting with stakeholders from the Kannywood industry.

In her reaction, Aisha Yesufu highlighted the longstanding presence of cross-dressers in Kano, predating the popular figure Bobrisky. She emphasized the need to address the issue without succumbing to hypocrisy, suggesting that there are lessons to be learned from the original cross-dressers in Kano who do not rely on surgery for transformation.
