LASTMA Rescues Eight Injured Passengers in ‘Molue’ Bus Crash
A major road accident involving a commercial ‘Molue’ bus left eight passengers injured at Hammadiya inward Abule-Egba in Lagos earlier today, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area.
The accident occurred when the bus, with registration number KTU 801 XM, lost control at high speed due to what has been attributed to driver impatience. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver swerved sharply to avoid colliding with another commercial LT bus and pedestrians waiting by the roadside. This sudden maneuver caused the vehicle to crash into the expressway median and overturn. Passengers scrambled to safety, with some escaping through the bus windows.
Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) quickly responded, coordinating an efficient rescue operation. The eight injured victims, including five males and three females, were promptly attended to by LASAMBUS medical personnel. The driver, who sustained a fractured left arm, was among those rushed to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo for urgent medical care.
LASTMA’s Response Unit worked swiftly to clear the overturned bus, ensuring traffic resumed smoothly. Security officers from the Meran Police Division were also on the ground to maintain order and support the rescue efforts.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep concern for the victims and wished them a speedy recovery. He used the opportunity to remind motorists of the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations, particularly speed limits, as outlined by the Lagos State Government.
“Compliance with traffic laws and regular vehicle maintenance, especially of key systems like brakes, is essential in preventing such unfortunate incidents,” Bakare-Oki stated.
