Polaris Bank Champions Accelerating Action at International Women’s Day Seminar
Polaris Bank has reinforced its commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment through its International Women’s Day (IWD) Seminar, themed “Accelerating Action: Breaking Barriers & Creating Equal Opportunities.” The event brought together thought leaders, professionals, and advocates to drive urgent action towards gender inclusivity across all sectors.
In her keynote address, Mrs. Abimbola Ozomah, Executive Director of Polaris Bank, conveyed greetings from the Managing Director/CEO, Management, and Staff of the Bank, emphasizing the significance of the day. “International Women’s Day is a time to recognize the remarkable achievements, contributions, and struggles of women across different spheres. However, it is also a call to action. This year’s theme urges us to take swift and decisive steps to dismantle systemic barriers and biases that hinder women’s progress,” she stated.
Reaffirming Polaris Bank’s dedication to gender inclusivity, Mrs. Ozomah highlighted the institution’s commitment to going beyond conversations and actively implementing policies that support women’s growth. “Empowering women and ensuring their inclusion in every sphere of society is at the core of our values,” she added.
The seminar featured engaging discussions with industry leaders who provided practical strategies for overcoming systemic barriers, fostering leadership opportunities, and enhancing financial inclusion for women.
Ayaba M. Ayo-Joseph, a Non-Executive Director at Polaris Bank, underscored the importance of women supporting each other beyond just International Women’s Day. She outlined eight key ways to accelerate women’s empowerment, including economic independence, leadership, mentorship, self-care, creating safe spaces, collaboration, and leveraging technology. She urged women to embrace change, saying, “The change we wish to see starts with us. Let’s keep pushing boundaries and supporting one another.”
Mrs. Subulade Giwa-Amu, another Non-Executive Director at Polaris Bank, emphasized the role of character, resilience, and purpose in achieving success. “Challenges will arise, but integrity is the key to overcoming them,” she noted. She also stressed the need for financial independence, self-investment, and work-life balance, stating, “Continuous learning and personal growth are non-negotiable for success. Women must support and uplift each other rather than engage in unnecessary competition.”
Tolulope Makinwa-Adeniyi, Executive Director of Muazu Africa, spoke about the power of relationships and personal development. She encouraged participants to build strong networks, take on challenges, and develop mastery in their fields. Addressing young female students from five selected schools in Lagos, she urged them to move beyond the ‘Cinderella Complex’ and take control of their destinies.
Ndidi Ukaonu, MD/CEO of Parthian Partners, called for action over conversation, stressing the importance of defining one’s impact. “What legacy am I building? How am I contributing to change?” she challenged participants. She urged women to embrace confidence and own their power, saying, “Stop waiting for permission to be great. The world is waiting for you to step up—the time is now.”
The seminar reaffirmed Polaris Bank’s role as a champion of women’s empowerment, with a firm commitment to ensuring that women are not only heard but also equipped to lead and drive change.
