This year’s edition, themed around heritage, innovation, and unity, is backed by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture in collaboration with the Brazilian Descendants Association. It promises to be a grand affair—drawing not only thousands of spectators into the streets but also global viewers via online platforms.

What sets the Lagos Fanti Carnival apart is its deep-rooted cultural significance. Far beyond the spectacle, the event stands as a living archive of identity, paying homage to the enduring cultural bond between Brazil and Nigeria. From the architecture of the Brazilian Quarters to the rhythmic footwork of samba dancers, the Fanti Carnival captures the soul of Lagos in motion.

This year’s carnival will be a day-long immersion into Lagos Island culture, blending traditional vibrancy with modern artistic expression. Activities will kick off with guest accreditation at 10:00 AM, leading to the main carnival procession from Old Defence Road to the JK Randle Center at 12:00 PM.

Highlights of the 2025 Edition:

  • Afro-Brazilian Food Showcase – A feast of flavors that tells the story of heritage through taste.
  • Heritage Art Exhibition – Celebrating the visual narratives of Afro-Brazilian ancestry and Island history.
  • The Grand Fanti Parade – A riot of color, dance, music, and costumed pageantry, showcasing the legacy and evolution of Lagos Island’s carnival culture.

This year’s carnival particularly shines a spotlight on youth-driven innovation. Young creatives—designers, performers, and visual artists—are curating experiences that merge ancestral storytelling with modern-day artistry. It’s a vibrant affirmation that the cultural torch is not just being passed, but reinvented with every beat.

Over 10,000 physical attendees are expected to line the parade route, with an estimated 50,000 virtual viewers tuning in via live stream. Social media engagement is projected to soar past two million digital impressions, affirming the global appetite for Lagos’s cultural brilliance.

In the lead-up to the big day, organizers have opened doors to exclusive behind-the-scenes moments—costume crafting sessions, samba rehearsals, and community bonding events—all of which reveal the immense labor of love that powers the carnival machine.
