The Chairperson of Ikeja Local Government, Mrs. Fausat Temitope Dauda, has reaffirmed her commitment to promoting women’s participation in politics and governance by urging women across the council area to register for their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the democratic process.
She made the call during the Women in Politics/Voters Registration Sensitization Programme held at the Marriage Registry Hall, Ikeja Local Government Secretariat. The programme attracted women leaders, market women, political stakeholders, and community representatives from across Ikeja.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Dauda emphasized that meaningful national development requires greater involvement of women in leadership and decision-making. She encouraged women who have yet to obtain their PVCs to do so, stressing that electoral participation remains the most effective way to influence governance and public policy.
According to her, women possess the competence, resilience, and leadership qualities necessary to contribute significantly to nation-building and should no longer remain on the sidelines of politics.
Delivering the keynote address, Comrade Abayomi Francis underscored the indispensable role of women in governance, noting that they should be regarded as strategic partners in democratic development rather than being limited to campaign activities.
He commended the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), for demonstrating a strong commitment to gender inclusion through the appointment of several women as Supervisory Councillors and Special Advisers within his administration. According to him, the appointments reflect a deliberate effort to empower women and provide them with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to governance.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Lagos State APC Assistant Legal Adviser, Barr. Debola Ladigbolu; the APC Chairman in Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Adebowale Adetoro; the APC Local Government Secretary, Princess Obaseki; women leaders, market women associations, party faithful, and other distinguished guests.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to mobilizing more women to register for their PVCs, participate actively in elections, and seek leadership positions, agreeing that increased female representation is essential to building a more inclusive, representative, and progressive society.
The sensitization programme further highlights the Ikeja Local Government administration’s commitment to promoting civic responsibility, strengthening democratic participation, and empowering women as critical partners in the sustainable development of Ikeja.
