Ifako-Ijaiye Council Chairman to Host Third Edition of Subsidized Food Support Market

In a continued effort to ease the economic burden on residents, Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, under the leadership of Executive Chairman Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH), is set to launch the third edition of its subsidized food support market. This initiative, aimed at providing affordable essential food items to the community, will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at African Church Primary School, Idiagbon Bus-Stop, beside the Local Government Secretariat.

The food subsidy market, introduced by UAH, offers residents the opportunity to purchase essential food items such as rice, beans, garri, yam, palm oil, and noodles at a 50% discount from current market prices. This initiative is expected to benefit over 10,000 residents, many of whom are grappling with the ongoing economic challenges that have significantly impacted household budgets.

The event, which starts at 10 a.m., is part of a broader effort by the council to mitigate the effects of inflation and rising food costs. Since the inception of the initiative, it has been met with overwhelming support from the community, offering relief to families who struggle to afford basic necessities.

Prince Hamzat, a strong advocate for community welfare, has emphasized that the subsidized food market is one of many programs aimed at improving the well-being of Ifako-Ijaiye residents. By providing essential items at half price, the council aims to directly address food insecurity, a growing concern among the populace.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Lateef Oladimeji Salaam, noted, “This initiative is a reflection of the chairman’s commitment to ensuring that no family in Ifako-Ijaiye goes hungry. The response from previous editions has been incredibly positive, and we are excited to continue this program for the benefit of our people.”

Residents are encouraged to arrive early to take advantage of the subsidized prices, as demand is expected to be high. With continued community support, the UAH administration remains dedicated to implementing programs that promote a better quality of life for all residents.

This third edition of the food subsidy market is another testament to Prince Hamzat’s vision for a “Greater Ifako-Ijaiye,” where the welfare of the people remains a top priority.
