Kano Police Dismantle Female-Led Syndicate Mobile Phone Thieves
The Kano State Police Command has arrested a five-member syndicate led by 19-year-old Shamsiyya Adamu , a resident of Brigade Quarters, Kano, responsible for stealing mobile phones across the metropolis. The operation followed multiple complaints of stolen devices and fraudulent activities in the area.
According to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba , a special intervention squad was raised, leading to Shamsiyya’s arrest on December 21, 2024. The syndicate reportedly targeted housewives, stole mobile phones, and used cybercriminals to swindle money from victims’ bank accounts.
– Shamsiyya Adamu (19): Principal suspect and leader of the syndicate.
– Idris Yusuf (23): Tricycle rider who aided in transporting the suspect.
– Al’asan Dahiru (24): Specialized in disposing of stolen items.
– Abdulmajid Haruna (27): Buyer of stolen properties; six phones were recovered from him.
– Salim Auwalu (21): Specialized in fraudulent transactions with victims’ accounts.
Police have recovered six stolen mobile phones and are working to retrieve more. So far, 30 complainants, including 29 women and one man, have accused Shamsiyya of stealing their phones in 2024.
