A newly registered political party, the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), has formally entered Nigeria’s political space with a bold promise to reshape governance through ideology, innovation, and leadership reform.
At a world press conference in Abuja, the party’s National Chairman, Barrister Samuel Memeh, described the unveiling as a “defining moment” for the country, positioning the DLA as a departure from Nigeria’s traditional political culture.
“The Democratic Leadership Alliance was founded not as just another political party, but as a movement of purpose, built on a clear ideological foundation—anchored in Pan-Africanism, ethical leadership, scientific advancement, and people-centered governance,” Memeh said.
He linked the party’s emergence to what he termed Nigeria’s “systemic failure, economic stagnation, and insecurity,” declaring emphatically that “Nigeria must rise again.”
Shift to Production Economy
Central to the party’s agenda is a transition from a consumption-driven economy to one anchored on production, innovation, and industrialization.
Memeh outlined plans to promote local manufacturing, invest in technology and research, and empower youth-driven enterprises, noting that economic transformation would be driven by science and innovation.
“Our economic policy is clear: Nigeria must move from consumption to production,” he stated.
Security, Agriculture in Focus
The DLA also placed strong emphasis on national security and agricultural protection, particularly addressing the destruction of farmlands and displacement of farmers.
The party proposed stricter regulation of cattle movement and the adoption of structured ranching systems, insisting that livestock owners must take responsibility for their operations.
“This is not just about security—it is about food sovereignty, economic stability, and national survival,” Memeh said, adding that agricultural modernization and youth participation would be key priorities.
Beyond Elections, Focus on Leadership
Speaking at the event, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Professor Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr, stressed that the DLA’s mission goes beyond electoral contests, including the 2027 general elections.
“We are not just about the next elections… we are about fixing the national leadership deficit and building a generation of thinkers,” he said.
He noted that the party would prioritize leadership development and carefully screen political actors to ensure alignment with its ideological values, warning against opportunism in Nigeria’s political system.
Call for National Reorientation
The DLA called on Nigerians to embrace a new political culture rooted in accountability, unity, and shared responsibility, while rejecting corruption and divisive politics.
Memeh urged citizens to actively participate in rebuilding the nation, describing the party as a platform for long-term transformation rather than short-term political gains.
“The responsibility to rebuild Nigeria lies with all of us,” he said.
A New Political Proposition
With its formal unveiling, the Democratic Leadership Alliance positions itself as a reform-driven movement seeking to redefine governance, rebuild institutions, and foster a new generation of leaders.
As the party sets its sights on Nigeria’s future, its emergence signals a potential shift toward ideology-driven politics in a landscape long dominated by personality and patronage.
“The time has come to rewrite the story of our nation,” Memeh declared. “Nigeria will rise again.”
