Delta Police Arrest Mother, Two Others for Child Trafficking in Asaba  

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a mother who sold her 11-day-old baby for ₦600,000, along with two others involved in child trafficking, in Asaba.  

Parading the suspects before the press, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, revealed that the mother confessed to selling her newborn due to financial hardship. She explained that she was abandoned by her boyfriend during pregnancy and had no means to care for the child.  

Further investigations by the police uncovered that the buyer, who purchased the baby from the mother, later resold the child for ₦4 million, exposing a larger trafficking network.  

All the suspects, including the mother, admitted to their involvement in the crime. The police, in response, reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling child trafficking syndicates in the state.  

“The Delta State Police Command will not rest until all those responsible for running baby factories and trafficking children in the state are brought to justice,” SP Bright assured.  

The arrests highlight the growing concern over child trafficking in Nigeria, with authorities intensifying efforts to combat the illicit trade and protect vulnerable children.
