The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed viral claims about the presence of 79 terrorists in the Lugbe axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), calling the information false, misleading, and intended to incite public panic.

In a press release issued from the Force Headquarters in Abuja — Ref No. CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/379 — the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the police have not imposed any curfew in the area, contrary to the rumors being circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

The statement emphasized that intelligence gathered by the Force Intelligence teams and other security agencies confirms there is no terrorist hideout in the Lugbe region. The Police further discredited the message, which falsely bore the signature of ACP Adejobi, describing it as the work of “devious individuals” aimed at destabilizing the peace in the FCT.

“The Nigeria Police Force urges citizens to rely solely on verified information from official police channels,” the statement read, listing the Force’s social media handles:

  • X (formerly Twitter): @PoliceNG
  • Facebook: ngpolice
  • Instagram: nigeriapoliceforce

The Force encouraged the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified security alerts, warning against the dangers of spreading misinformation. Citizens are urged to confirm any news about public safety through the Nigeria Police Force’s official platforms or credible news outlets.

Reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Nigeria Police Force called on residents of the FCT and Nigerians at large to remain calm, vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via emergency contact lines.

The Police assured the public of their unwavering dedication to maintaining peace and security, stressing that national safety remains their top priority.

For further updates, the public is advised to follow the official police communication channels.
