The President of the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP), Udo Onyeka, has reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting excellence in maritime journalism and strengthening collaboration within Nigeria’s maritime industry.
Delivering his welcome address at the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Annual Lecture, Udo Onyeka described the gathering as a significant milestone, marking five years of growth, resilience, progress, and impactful contributions since the association’s establishment in 2021.
He expressed appreciation to members for their unwavering support, commitment, and dedication, noting that their collective efforts had been instrumental in building CONMMEP into a respected professional body committed to advancing maritime journalism.
The CONMMEP President also thanked members for the confidence reposed in the current Executive Council, which assumed office a year ago, saying their encouragement had inspired the leadership to pursue its mandate effectively. He further commended members of the Executive Committee for their selfless service and tireless efforts in driving the association’s progress.
Onyeka praised members who have consistently upheld the association’s constitution, rules, and regulations, stating that their discipline and professionalism have preserved the unity, integrity, and core values of CONMMEP.
Reflecting on the association’s journey, he acknowledged that while the past year brought notable achievements, it also presented valuable lessons that would strengthen the association’s resolve to become more influential and prosperous in the years ahead.
The President announced that the highlight of the AGM was the annual lecture to be delivered by Eugene Nweke, Head of Research at the Sea Empowerment and Research Centre, Lagos. The lecture is themed “Maritime Security, Trade Facilitation and the Media.”
According to Onyeka, the lecture will examine the critical relationship between maritime security, trade facilitation, national economic development, and the strategic role of the media in promoting national security and sustainable growth.
He also disclosed that the event would feature the presentation of the CONMMEP Leadership Excellence Award to distinguished personalities in recognition of their outstanding contributions to national development, exemplary leadership, and service to humanity.
Expressing confidence in the outcome of the event, Onyeka said the AGM and lecture would provide valuable insights, encourage meaningful discussions, and strengthen stakeholders’ collective commitment to advancing Nigeria’s maritime sector and the journalism profession.
He concluded by welcoming members, guests, and industry stakeholders to the event, thanking them for their continued support and dedication to the growth and success of CONMMEP.
