Governor Sanwo-Olu Calls for Optimism Amid Economic Challenges

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged Nigerians to remain optimistic about the country’s future despite the current economic hardships and ongoing protests. He made this statement during a special gathering to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day at the Lagos State Secretariat Community Central Mosque in Alausa, Ikeja.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that there is a clear plan in place to stabilize the economy, urging citizens to remain hopeful. “As a people, we cannot be hopeless. We must be hopeful because at least there is a plan. We can all debate the plan, but it exists, and the goal is to ensure economic stability,” he remarked.

He highlighted the need to preserve the nation’s reserves, especially given Nigeria’s dependence on imports and the ongoing efforts to build critical infrastructure such as schools and hospitals. “We are a nation that is building. We must sustain our economic stability. If we don’t have a plan, then there is a problem,” Sanwo-Olu added.

The Governor also stressed the importance of basing public discussions on facts and praised Nigerians for their successes on the global stage.

In a broader reflection on societal values, Sanwo-Olu expressed concern about the erosion of traditional family values due to the influence of Western lifestyles. He called on parents and religious leaders to take responsibility for instilling strong moral values in the younger generation.

Meanwhile, questions have arisen regarding a $100 million land purchase by Dangote Refinery, with some Lagos residents seeking clarity on the transaction. Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information, stated that he was uncertain if the payment was made during Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
