NCS Clarifies Viral Video, Alleged Mosque Demolition at Customs School, Idiroko

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has responded to a viral video alleging that its Officer in Charge of Building directed the demolition of a mosque under construction at the Nigeria Customs Secondary School, Idiroko. According to the NCS, an investigation revealed that the mosque construction lacked proper authorization and did not align with the master plan for the school and junior barracks.

The Command noted that there are already existing religious facilities within its jurisdiction, including existing mosques and a chapel within the border area, as well as facilities at the residences of the Customs Area Controller (CAC) and in the senior and junior officers’ barracks. 

Recalls that a mosque within the junior barracks was recently renovated and expanded under the oversight of the same Officer in Charge of Building.

 To promote respect and address concerns, Customs Area Controller Comptroller James Ojo has intervened personally, pledging to lay the foundation for a new mosque at an approved location within the premises. The CAC has committed to supporting the timely completion of the mosque in accordance with the Command’s regulations.

The Command called on all stakeholders to maintain patience and mutual respect, particularly given the sensitivity surrounding religious matters. Comptroller Ojo also urged the school administration to continue fostering harmony and positive relations within the barracks community.
