Commercial Mazda Bus Involved in Collision on Ifako Bridge, Lagos

At approximately 10:30 a.m. today, a serious accident occurred on Ifako Bridge, heading towards the Ogudu area of Lagos. The crash involved an unpainted commercial Mazda bus with registration number MUS 576 YJ and a Korope mini-bus, FKJ 618.

Initial investigations suggest that the Mazda bus driver, distracted by eating while driving, lost concentration and control of the vehicle. This situation was worsened by a sudden brake failure, leading to the unfortunate collision.

Personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were quick to respond, rescuing five passengers—one male and four females—who sustained injuries in the Mazda bus. With assistance from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), the injured were promptly taken to the Accident and Emergency Centre near the Toll Gate along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for urgent medical attention.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sympathy for the victims and urged all motorists, especially commercial drivers, to prioritize road safety and avoid any distractions while driving.

In a separate incident today at Iyana-Oworo, also heading towards Ogudu, an Acura SUV (AAA 818 HV) collided with two cows as a herd was crossing the highway. The accident resulted in the death of the animals and significant damage to the vehicle.

LASTMA officers cleared the damaged Acura from the road to restore smooth traffic flow and later handed the vehicle over to the Ogudu Police Station for further investigation.
