The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, has been installed as Vice Chair of the Body of Advisers of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG) during the ongoing 2025 edition of the Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The prestigious appointment places the Customs boss at the forefront of a national effort to rebrand and reposition Nigeria’s image through strategic communication, alongside John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Television, who now serves as Chair of the NRMG advisory board.

Organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the NPRW—running from May 19 to 23—brings together public relations experts, policymakers, and strategic communicators to explore how communication can drive national development.

Speaking during his installation, CGC Adeniyi expressed gratitude and optimism for the role NRMG will play in reshaping Nigeria’s global narrative.

“I consider it a privilege to be part of this important national assignment. With the calibre of individuals involved, I’m confident that we can reshape how Nigeria tells her story to her people and the world,” he said.

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, officially opened the conference on May 20, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to repositioning public communication as a catalyst for governance and economic growth.

In a further demonstration of Customs’ thought leadership, the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, presented a paper titled “Advances in Government, Policy and Regulatory Communication.” He highlighted how modern public institutions must embrace a deliberate, multi-channel approach to messaging, with an emphasis on transparency, engagement, and clarity.

“Today’s citizens want more than information—they want connection, clarity, and credibility,” Maiwada stated. “At Customs, we are building trust by being intentional and transparent in our communications.”

As activities at the 2025 NPRW continue, the Nigeria Customs Service has reaffirmed its role not only in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations but also in shaping the national conversation around trust, transparency, and reputational management in public service.
