Comrade Fatoki Abiodun Olumide has emphasized the vital link between physical fitness and effective leadership, declaring that “if you are not fit, you are not fit for leadership.” He made this bold statement while serving as the Chairman of the Occasion at the 35th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition of Command Secondary School Lagos.
In his address, Comrade Fatoki reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, education, and national fitness, stressing that sports are a crucial tool for nurturing future leaders.
“The military is synonymous with discipline and resilience, and the hallmark of military training is sports. If we want a strong and progressive nation, we must build a culture of fitness, strategy, and discipline—not just in the military but in all aspects of governance and leadership,” he stated.
Tying his vision to his political ambitions, Comrade Fatoki announced financial support for the school, pledging to personally sponsor the renovation and beautification of the staff quarters. He also unveiled plans to launch scholarship programs and civic development initiatives aimed at strengthening youth capacity and fostering national progress.
“When my vision for leadership comes to fruition, I will ensure substantial investments in education, civic responsibilities, and sports development,” he assured the audience.
Calling on the government to integrate military-style discipline into sports at all levels, Comrade Fatoki argued that physical fitness should be a national priority.
“Government must prioritize sports as a national development tool, incorporating military-style discipline into our schools and communities. Strong leaders emerge from strong foundations, and fitness must be a national priority,” he emphasized.
Lt. Col. Olalekan Dimeji Bamiteko, the Acting Commandant of Command Secondary School Lagos, echoed Comrade Fatoki’s views, praising the school’s efforts in fostering both academic and extracurricular excellence.
“Beyond academics, we instill discipline, perseverance, and strategic thinking in our students. Sports play a vital role in shaping future leaders,” Lt. Col. Bamiteko remarked.
He further revealed that the Army Headquarters has approved and commenced the construction of new boys’ and girls’ hostels to enhance student welfare and support sporting activities.
The 35th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition proved to be a resounding success, blending athleticism with leadership training. The event highlighted the school’s long-standing legacy of excellence and reinforced Comrade Fatoki’s vision for a stronger, fitter, and more disciplined Nigeria — where education, civic engagement, and sports work hand-in-hand to drive national development.
