Bayo Adeyinka Secures Freedom for Eight Inmates, Donates Medical Supplies to Mark 50th Birthday
In a profound act of generosity, Bayo Adeyinka, a renowned author, banker, and pastor, secured the freedom of eight inmates at Ikoyi Correctional Center in Lagos by paying their fines. The initiative, undertaken as part of his 50th birthday celebration, reflects his deep commitment to faith, philanthropy, and social impact.
At a brief event held at the correctional center’s Catholic chapel on Saturday, March 29, 2024, Adeyinka, popularly known as “Greater Bayo”, addressed a gathering of inmates, Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) officials, friends, and family. He explained that the outreach was inspired by the biblical concept of the “Year of Jubilee”, a time of freedom and restoration.
“According to the Bible, every 50th year is known as the ‘Year of Jubilee,’ which means freedom. It is therefore my honour to facilitate the freedom of eight of our brothers today through the payment of their fines in commemoration of my 50th birthday anniversary,” Adeyinka stated.
He further revealed that proceeds from his recently launched two books, along with donations received during his birthday celebration, were dedicated to funding the initiative.
In addition to securing the release of the eight inmates, Adeyinka also made significant donations to improve the welfare of those still in custody. He provided essential medical supplies—including antibiotics, anti-malarial drugs, painkillers, blood boosters, and syringes—to the Ikoyi Correctional Center clinic.
Recognizing the needs of female inmates, Adeyinka extended his generosity to the Kirikiri Female Correctional Centre, where he donated sanitary pads for 268 female inmates, ensuring they had adequate supplies for the rest of the year.
The gesture was met with heartfelt gratitude from both inmates and correctional officers. Before leaving, Adeyinka urged the freed individuals to stay away from crime and embrace positive change. To help them transition smoothly back into society, he also gave each of them ₦20,000 for transportation expenses.
“I encourage you to pay this kindness forward and use this opportunity to build a better future,” he told the freed inmates.
Adeyinka’s prison outreach underscores his unwavering dedication to uplifting the less privileged, blending faith-driven initiatives with practical support. His latest act of generosity is yet another testament to his broader mission of transforming lives through compassion, advocacy, and social responsibility.
