The Adamawa State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on Shilla gangsterism and other criminal activities, leading to the arrest of 57 suspects in coordinated operations across Jimeta, Girei, and Yola Town.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the operation was carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, as part of ongoing efforts to combat gangsterism, drug abuse, public nuisance, and related crimes in the state.
The operation targeted identified criminal hideouts and black spots within the Jimeta and Yola metropolitan areas. Divisional Police Officers, working under the supervision of their respective Area Commanders, conducted the exercise, which resulted in the arrest of 57 suspects for offences linked to Shilla-related activities, public nuisance, possession of dangerous weapons, and involvement with prohibited substances.
Police operatives also recovered various dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances during the raid. The recovered exhibits have been documented and will be presented as evidence during prosecution.
The Command disclosed that the suspects have been charged to court in accordance with the law, while profiling and further investigations are ongoing to ascertain their possible involvement in other criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police Kabiru Umar Hassan commended the professionalism, dedication, and commitment demonstrated by officers who participated in the operation. He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to dismantle criminal gangs and ensure the safety and security of residents across Adamawa State.
The Police Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to support crime prevention and detection efforts.
The statement emphasized that the sustained operations form part of the Command’s broader strategy to restore lasting peace and maintain law and order throughout the state.
