OSUN2026: ADC Picks Dr. Najeem Salaam Governorship Candidate
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially selected Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam as its governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election, following a decisive leadership vote held in Lagos on Friday.
Dr. Salaam, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, emerged the preferred choice after the party’s National Executive Committee and other top stakeholders held a closed-door session to resolve internal divisions and streamline the party’s direction ahead of the upcoming polls.
He defeated fellow aspirant Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, a former Secretary to the State Government, in what party sources described as a “critical and unifying decision” aimed at strengthening the ADC’s prospects in the 2026 race.
According to insiders, the Lagos meeting became necessary to address factional disagreements within the party and produce a single, consensus-backed candidate capable of rallying widespread support across Osun State.
While Adeoti lost out in the final vote, senior party figures have called for unity within the ADC, urging both camps to close ranks and work collectively to position the party strongly ahead of what is expected to be a competitive governorship contest.
The ADC is expected to present Dr. Salaam formally to its Osun chapter in the coming days, alongside unveiling a comprehensive roadmap as it kicks off preparations for the 2026 election season.
