THREE LIVES LOST IN TRAGIC EPE ACCIDENT INVOLVING DANGOTE TRUCK; LASTMA RESCUES VICTIMS IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS AT ABULE-EGBA, KETU

Heartbreaking incident today at Ayeyoro, Epe, brake failure involving a Dangote truck (DCG-TM-028) has claimed the lives of three individuals. The tragic event occurred as the truck, descending from Ita-Opo, lost control, crashing into a tricycle (Marwa AGL 442 QC) and a stationary Toyota Camry at the Ayeyoro traffic light. The impact continued as the truck veered into the Ayetoro Market Complex in Epe.

The accident resulted in the unfortunate loss of the tricycle driver and two students from Manpower Technical School.

Swift response teams from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), supported by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), quickly arrived at the scene to secure the area and manage the situation. The deceased were respectfully transported to the mortuary at Epe General Hospital.

Efforts to clear the site, including removing the Dangote truck, were promptly carried out to ease traffic and ensure road safety.

In another incident, a brake failure was also reported on an LT Bus (FKJ 762 AD) and a Toyota Hiace Bus (MUS 154 YE) at Ijaye, inward Abule-Egba. LASTMA personnel responded swiftly, rescuing the driver and two passengers who were then taken to a nearby hospital for urgent care.

Meanwhile, LASTMA officers were also called to rescue three individuals — two women and one man — involved in a multi-vehicle collision at Tsunami Bridge, inward Ketu. This incident involved two Volkswagen commercial buses (LSD 483 CT & AGL 267) and a 10-tyre DAF truck, leaving the victims with varying injuries. They were immediately transported to the hospital, with support from officers of the Alapere Police Station for security during the rescue.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the critical importance of vehicle maintenance, especially for the braking system. He urged all motorists to conduct regular checks and ensure their vehicles are in safe, working condition before embarking on any journey. This diligence, he noted, is essential to prevent tragic accidents and save lives.
