Seyi Lawal Seeks Constituents Collaboration, Curb Current Hardship In Nigeria, Urges Youth Participants In Government Home-grown Farming

In line with the Lagos State Legislators commitment to compliment the Mr. Speaker’s move and input , Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa to reduce hardship and impact of Food insecurity in Lagos State, the member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikeja Constituency 1,Hon. Prince Lawal Adeseyi has called on the Youth and members of his Constituency to collaborate with the Lagos State Government, with their full participation in Agriculture through an Home-grown Farming.

This was disclosed on Friday 11th October, 2024, during the 9th Constituency Stakeholders ‘Meeting which was held simultaneously in all the 40 Constituency of the State, also held at Awori House Oregun Ikeja, on a Topic” Ensuring Food Security For A Sustainable Future:  Youth Participation & Home-Grown Farming”.

Speaking to the Cfame News Correspondent, Hon. Prince Lawal Adeseyi acknowledged the Speaker and the Almighty Allah who made it possible for the members of the legislative Arms of Lagos to implement this plans across the state, in order to reduce the hardship in the state through empowering the Constituents with An Agricultural motivation.

He expressed, that better days like of our forefathers can be achieved to begin to eat fresh food and plant crops like Vegetables, Yams, Millet which made our forefathers became more healthier in the past, today too, when we reason together and join hands to grow good fruits in our community.

Also, he buttressed, that he has organized series of programmes to make his Constituents become more healthy in the past, through the screening of Blood pressure, Sugar levels test and more.

He stated, that he believes that the Youths in his Constituency can do it well to build themselves up to grow fresh food around our homes without any setback.

In the Speaker’s speech, explained how Agricultural Experts have been engaged to lecture the 40 constituencies in Lagos State on Home Grown farming as a panacea for food security for our teeming population for the benefits of all Lagosians, so as to reduce the cry of there is hunger in the land…. Meaning in Yoruba Language “Ebi npa WA”.

However, he pledged, that the Lagos State House of Assembly will be working with the executive arm to develop comprehensive policies and programme for youth engagement in Agriculture, investing in modern farming techniques, technology and research.

Meanwhile, all these will be well complemented with providing access to finance,markets and agricultural extension services for farmers and promote sustainable consumption pattern and reduce waste in the state.

In addition, the idea of Ounje Eko which was organized months ago in taking off 25 percent normal prices in the state, has been geared towards food sufficiency at reduced prices, and basically viewed as a timely panacea to cushion the harsh effects of the food shortage and insufficient income by many people in the state.

So, he advised every Lagosian to collaborate to build a food security future for Lagos State and Nigeria, for the youth to be adequately empowered, and farmers to thrive and our community flourish with An abundant and sustainable food system that will be beneficial to all A sundry.

A Guest Lecturer from the Ministry Of Agriculture, Comrade Olusola Olubukola enlightened everyone on the topic of the day, and encouraged them not to allow any shortage of food, that if the residents have challenges in growing any product, they have all rights to approach the Ministry of Agriculture Agencies to purchase seeds to grow their products and also to begin a vegetable farming around their homes.

She spoke briefly about Urban farming, with An idea of growing coconut in Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area.

She maintained further, that we can together make food surplus in our environment, when the Parents join hands with the government to encourage their children to begin farming at home, in order to help us better our society from the problem of hardship and inavailability of Food.

The Executive Chairman of the Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon. Dotun, who was represented by the Vice Chairman of the LCDA, Barr. Olufunke Hassan added, that it is high time the government organize a sensitization and interactive programme, to encourage the people to participate in Agriculture, without discouraging anybody, that when everyone is brought together, then their challenges will be identified and it will be easy for them to be guided ahead of time, and they will generally give their contributions for a better implementation. 

Because everyone today seems to want to reap so fast as they invest or plant. 

She thereby called on every Stakeholders, Market Women and the youth to come together and collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture, Local Government and Agencies to achieve the best of Home-Grown Farming systems. 

The Leader of the Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon. Oluwakayode Opayemi commended the Lagos State Government initiative to begin farming with a modern technique, to address the issue of hunger in the land.

While he noted, that it is important to tell the truth that the rise in every commodity is enormous, and there is need to reduce it.

Saying also, that it will an advantage for us all if the whole 57 Local Government in Lagos State embrace the farming system, and nobody will be lack of food.

He thereby advised everyone to embrace the farming idea and do the needful to survive and better our community.

The LGA Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA Ikeja, Alhaja Iyabo Aminat Akerele urged Nigerians to calm down with the state of the nation during her address, and expressed hope that everything will soon be better in Nigeria, because she believes that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing it possible to address the situation of Nigeria.

She explained, that Governor Sanwo-Olu has been demonstrating his leadership qualities to address the needs of the state in different faces of life to curb the issue of hardship and hunger in the land.

That it is also fantastic within the Ikeja Constituency 1,just as it is done to establish an interactive session among the Constituents with a listening ears and ability to follow every bit of discussion up.

She prayed in her address, for God to give the Constituency legislator strength to do it well and achieve the best of it.
