The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has charged newly promoted senior police officers to demonstrate uncompromising integrity, professionalism, and accountability in the discharge of their duties, emphasizing that public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force must be earned through fairness and respect rather than public relations.
Speaking during the decoration ceremony for newly promoted officers, the IGP reminded the beneficiaries that their elevation comes with greater responsibility to uphold the highest ethical standards and reject all forms of misconduct, abuse of office, and corruption.
“I expect you to lead with uncompromising integrity, with no tolerance for misconduct, abuse of office, or corruption,” Disu said. “But I also expect you to lead with humanity in mind.”
The police chief stressed that while the Force is committed to building a modern, intelligence-led and technology-driven institution capable of effectively addressing emerging security challenges, officers must never lose sight of the ultimate purpose of policing.
“We must continue building a modern intelligence-led, technology-driven force, but we must never lose sight of why,” he said. “Our goal is safer streets, protected families, and communities that trust us because we have earned that trust through fairness and respect.”
Disu underscored the importance of public trust as a critical tool in effective policing, noting that confidence in law enforcement cannot be manufactured through image management.
“Public confidence is not a public relations exercise,” he declared. “It is the difference between a tip that saves a life and a silence that costs one.”
He urged the newly promoted officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by leading with courage, discipline, and compassion while serving the nation.
The decoration ceremony recognized officers who were recently elevated to higher ranks in acknowledgment of their service and commitment to the Nigeria Police Force. The IGP congratulated the officers and encouraged them to see their promotions not merely as rewards for past achievements but as renewed calls to selfless service and exemplary leadership.
