Police Rescue 19-Year-Old Lady from Suicide Attempt

In a swift and decisive response, officers from the Ikorodu Area Command have successfully rescued a nineteen-year-old lady who was on the verge of committing suicide. The incident occurred on June 29, 2024, around 1400 hours, when a concerned citizen alerted police authorities about the young woman attempting to ingest a harmful chemical known as Sniper.

Responding promptly to the tip-off, police officers were dispatched to the scene, where they located the distressed girl and prevented her from causing herself harm. 

The young lady, whose identity remains confidential, disclosed that she had been driven to the brink of suicide due to severe emotional distress. She revealed that she had been impregnated by a man who subsequently refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy. Compounding her emotional turmoil, she had also been defrauded of her earnings from her Point of Sale (POS) business by a scammer, exacerbating her financial struggles.

Currently, the rescued lady is receiving necessary psychological support to help her cope with her distressing situation. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in her predicament.

The Lagos State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin, emphasizes the importance of mental health awareness and urges anyone facing similar challenges to seek help promptly. “We encourage those in distress to reach out for support and not to suffer in silence,” stated SP Hundeyin.

This incident highlights the critical need for community vigilance and timely intervention in mental health crises, reinforcing the commitment of the Lagos Police Command to safeguarding the well-being of all citizens.
