Fidelity Bank Plc has launched its “Give Her Power” initiative and signed strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with key partners to drive women’s economic empowerment in Nigeria.
The programme, unveiled to mark the International Women’s Day 2026, is anchored on the bank’s HerFidelity Apprenticeship Programme, which aims to equip women with vocational skills, financial knowledge, mentorship, and business support.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director/CEO, Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, said the initiative is designed to help women transition from informal hustle to sustainable enterprise, stressing that empowering women is both a social responsibility and an economic strategy.
Key interventions include the distribution of 1,000 sewing and grinding machines to support women-led microbusinesses, alongside vocational training in areas such as automobile mechanics, interior decoration, barbing, hair making, and shoe production. Beneficiaries will also receive mentorship, branding support, and training in makeup, nail care, and traditional headgear tying.
The MoU brings together partners including LUSH Hair, Barbergirl Academy, Dee ‘n’ Ell, Inter-Bau Foundation, IVM Innoson, National Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC), and One Universe to expand access to skills and enterprise opportunities.
Commending the initiative, Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, noted that the programme aligns with the state government’s vision of building an inclusive economy. Similarly, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Bolaji Cecilia Dada, described the initiative as a strategic step toward reducing poverty and strengthening communities through women’s financial inclusion.
The “Give Her Power” initiative is expected to empower hundreds of women nationwide, reinforcing their role as critical drivers of economic growth and community development.
