In a bold step to promote access to quality education, the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government has unveiled the AKOD–EI Free GCE Forms Initiative, offering 200 free General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to residents within the council.
The initiative, themed “Giving the Best Legacy, which is Education,” marks the first edition of the programme and is designed to support young people and adults alike in their academic pursuits.
According to the council, the scheme is open to SS2 and SS3 students as well as out-of-school candidates who reside within Ikeja Local Government. Importantly, it is not restricted to youths alone, as interested adults who wish to further their education are also eligible.
Applicants are required to present photocopies of their National Identification Number (NIN) and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASSRA) cards during the screening exercise. The screening, which is mandatory for all applicants, will take place at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat Hall between Tuesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 29, 2025, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. Attendance will be treated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.
The council has warned against impersonation, stressing that candidates must appear in person as representation by proxy will lead to automatic disqualification.
The initiative reflects the chairman’s ongoing commitment to human capacity development through education. By providing free GCE forms, the Ikeja LG leadership hopes to remove financial barriers that hinder many residents from accessing further education opportunities.
