Police Rescue Robbery Victim, Suspect Dies After Mob Attack in Agege
The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a suspected armed robber, Saidu Sinah, also known as “Ojubintin,” who was apprehended and brutally beaten by an angry mob at AP/Akerele Junction, Agege.
According to a situation report from the Isokoko Police Division, a distress call was received at about 6:30 a.m., alerting officers that a robbery suspect had been caught and was on the verge of being lynched by a crowd. Upon arrival at the scene, police operatives dispersed the mob, which fled upon sighting law enforcement officers.
Sinah, found severely injured, was immediately rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, alongside his accomplices—who are currently at large—allegedly stabbed a middle-aged woman and stole her mobile phone at the same location.
The victim was also rushed to the hospital, where she is receiving treatment for her injuries. Police officers have since visited the medical facility, inspected, and documented her condition.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been evacuated to a public morgue by the Lagos State Health and Monitoring Unit. Authorities have assured that efforts are ongoing to track down Sinah’s accomplices, as well as individuals involved in the mob attack.
The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its stance against jungle justice, urging residents to report criminal activities to law enforcement agencies rather than resorting to extrajudicial measures.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
