ENDBADGOVERNANCE: SECURITY FORCE DEPLOYED TEAR GAS TO DISPERSE LEKKI TOLL GATR PROTESTERS

Security forces deployed tear gas to disperse protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos State, who defied a recent court order to relocate to designated protest areas.

The protest was closely monitored by officers from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and other security units.

Despite a Lagos State High Court ruling on Tuesday that restricted protests to specific locations, demonstrators gathered at the toll gate, prompting a swift response from the police.

Justice Emmanuel Ogundare’s ruling designated Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota and Peace Park in Ketu as the only approved venues for protests.

The deployment of tear gas represents a significant escalation in the authorities’ approach to managing demonstrations, as tensions rise over the right to assemble.
