Gender Violence: How Organization Plan to Combat Femicide Recognize Community Builders
An initiative that combines the celebration of community development with urgent advocacy for women’s safety, Societal Concerns Organization is set to host a two-in-one event: the Community Service Distinguished Awards and a symposium titled “Breaking the Silence: Understanding and Preventing Femicide in Our Community.”
The event, designed to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to community development and address the critical issue of femicide, underscores the organization’s commitment to fostering societal progress and ensuring the safety and well-being of women and girls.
The Community Service Distinguished Awards will honor leaders, advocates, and changemakers who have tirelessly uplifted communities through exceptional commitment to progress and development. These awards highlight the efforts of individuals who have dedicated their time and resources to addressing key societal challenges and fostering inclusive growth.
The symposium, themed “Breaking the Silence: Understanding and Preventing Femicide in Our Community,”aims to shed light on the alarming prevalence of femicide, the intentional killing of women and girls, and to foster actionable dialogue on its prevention. With violence against women often escalating during the year-end season, the event’s timing is both critical and strategic.
Ambassador Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi, President of Societal Concerns Organization, emphasized the importance of the event, stating:
“Femicide remains a significant threat to women globally, rooted in economic hardship, societal pressure, and patriarchal norms. By addressing this issue, we aim to empower communities, advocate for systemic change, and foster a culture of respect and equality.”
The symposium seeks to:
